BAGATELLES and BREVITIES: These are similar in character with the exception that each of the Brevities is a string of miniatures improvised without pause.

INTRODUCTION, ADAGIO, and PRESTO: The movements transition from strings to strings alternating with piano to piano.

BALLAD: An accompaniment in two different keys underlies a simple harmonization in a third key, all further colored by meantone tuning.
